Didine 01-19-2010, 01:03 PM Hello everybody!
I would like to know if it's possible to follow courses during my holiday in New York. I am french and I have a visa B1B2, i stay only 3 weeks each time and i don't know if it's possible to make that.
I would like to learn illustration. I don't know the school in New york.
Can you help me for the school?
Thank you so much

Your best bet is to go to the Metropolitan Museum. Entry is free if you tell them you do not wish to pay at the door. They ask for money but it's really a donation, and you can refuse, but definitely donate if you can, it's one of the best public Museums in the world.
Bring a sketch pad, and go draw all of the sculptures from different angles every day while your there in NY. You'll learn 1000x more than you will from any class. Maybe, get a cheap camera to photograph your sketchbook and post the pictures online for critique, -here on CGtalk or perhaps on conceptart.org or similar for daily advice.

I second the suggestion to sketch at the Met. Their collection of Classical sculptures is quite impressive, and they recently reopened their Enlightenment-era sculpture garden after a year or two of renovation, so there's no shortage of amazing things to draw.
Time Out New York frequently lists weekly life drawing sessions. I haven't been to one in a while, but typically you pay a fee at the door and draw a live model for a few hours. There's no formal instruction, but the sessions are typically filled with extremely skilled artists that might be willing to give critiques.
My friends these days are raving about Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School (http://www.drsketchy.com/) events. They're life drawing sessions crossed with cabaret acts. I haven't been to one, but it looks pretty interesting. The next session is on January 30.
I'm not sure if you could fit in a more traditional illustration class at SVA, Parson's, or NYU in just three weeks, though.

Thank you so much for all this information, it's great!
I never see Met and Metropolitan Museum, it seems very interesting! I like!!
I drew the last time at the Society of illustration, it was great! It was a course of living model. you drew during three hours with two models, you had music, singer, food and bar. I like!
I am happy, now i know where i can draw, it's good!

I didn't know I can show my sketchbook here on CGtalk, I think that it was just for illustration finish... It's good to know that.
Thank you so much!!
Have a good day!
