Hi everyone.

After submitting my Expose 8 entry on the deadline, I have been flat out developing this concept. Its been a lot of fun, delving into the dreamworld.

I decided to base my b movie entry on a movie I wrote in my spare time called "Spinifex". Lots of monsters and people running away screaming... grand scale and a stoic hero. Also, it's a pretty strange, science fantasy type of a place.

This is the final concept based on a description and early drawings of a creature called a fiette. It floats on strange energies generated and spewed out from its chest. The idea is that this plains-predator skims along the ground as its grasshopper-esque legs kick it along. We all know how impossibly fast grasshoppers can move. Blink and they're gone. So scaling that up, lightweight and manouverable this creature would easily be able to keep up with a hovercraft or small jet.

Short on food in the badlands, it is happy to take on anything that comes along (as is demonstrated by the remains of its last meal, still caught spinning around in its skim-field along with an unforunate fish :) ).

Forgot to mention, concept done in Sketchbook Pro using an Intuos 3, 9X12.

The final colour piece will be done in CS4 and incorporate this pose and another fiette in a more agressive stance cornering our hero, who will, naturally, be looking a little freaked out. Am looking forward to practicing my speedpainting and a more loose style over the next 3 nights in between bouts of sweet, glorious sleep. :bounce:
