View Full Version : lighting tips
blakboks 08-27-2003, 07:32 AM Hey
I kinda have a good idea why these stupid lines (as indicated on the attached image) show up...but my question is...how do i light properly so i can get rid of them? or at least make them less-aparent?
Let me know if my question isn't clear enough...
Thanks..
Chris

The lights look like distant/infinite/parallel lights. Right or wrong?
Try using spot lights with a wider penumbra, or if you can afford it use area lights.
It really depends on what kind of lighting you want to achieve, but for his bright key light i'd recommend a spot light.

yeah, it is a typical 3-light setup...all spots
ok, i tried it out with area lights...and well they certainly helped...however, they are kinda costly...especially if it's something as simple as a bounce light
I think i found a reasonable solution. On that image, i wasn't using falloff at all...and that seems to be the result when you don't use falloff in XSI...good to know...
Thanks for your help,
Chris

hey sean,
i've actually done that tutorial, and tried applying the shader to my model, however, it messes up A LOT when you try to plug textures into it.
thanks for the help, though
