The idea behind this image is that an actual monster has broken into the film set where they're filming some 50's monster movie.

The film crew takes notice of the monster and runs away, except for the Camera operator filming the real monster, the main actor trying to make out with the lead actress, and the oblivious actor in the cheesy monster costume who thinks he's being extra frightening.

I like it, and I like the monster, very muppet, in a good way.

The perspective looks a bt funny though. It looks like the monster is a little bigger than a normal person and the people (with the exception of the camera man) look like little puppets. You could go for a lower more extreme angle, with creepy underlighting and that would look pretty sweet.

Keep going, I can't wait to see the next version!

Thanks man,

This was a quick, 5 minute sketch, and it will look quite different when it's finished.

I originally envisioned something like a bug monster with millions of lenticular eyes, but he does need some personality. As a result, the character does look kinda Muppety in this sketch... I'll have to do a bunch of sketches before nailing his design down.

Next update will be a 3D stand-in image. I need to nail down a fun, campy camera angle.

I'm hoping that the dude in the suit will come off as looking very cheap. Like, he's wearing platform shoes, and you can see the zippers in his costume cheap. Basically he will be the miniature, crappy version of the real monster.

I ran the old concept pass a couple teachers, co-workers, etc, and unfortunately the concept required too much explanation. I tried to reinvent the concept with different camera angles, focus, blocking etc, and the whole concept of "A monster breaks into a B-movie set to terrorize the film crew" was a little too complicated and shallow.

Through reinvention I came upon the much simpler idea of Real monsters who sneak into the drive-in movie theater and make sarcastic comments in the back.

Hunting around for some vintage 1955-ish cars with character. Obviously the cars will be stylized and while they will borrow elements from Studebakers and Chevys, for the most part they'll be muts.

Starting on car models. 51' Chevy Corvette. Obviously I'm not shooting for absolute authenticity. I figured since I'm going for a monstrous theme I might as well accentuate the scarier, and more monstrous features of the car: the grill, headlights, fins, etc.

Thanks guys,

Yup, I'll be adding more details, but more on the rear then on the front.

The cars are going to seem a little squashed and tiny when compared to their real life counterparts.

Hey Brian,

Cool concept, like the approach :D The drive-in cinema has a a loty of potential for a great scenario for the concept. The car model is really cool. Good luck and waiting for more updates. Cheers!!
