View Full Version : Lilah - Sword Girl
DeamonMachine 01-17-2010, 05:55 PM This is one of my first attempts at real coloring. I mostly used layers with multiply and color burn. The problem I'm running into is that i'm much better at pencil drawing than I am at using the tablet. I'm mostly going for a marvel type comic style.
Any online tutorials for this type of coloring would be awsome.
So please crit and let me know what I need to work on. Her legs look a little off to me, but I couldn't find a good ref to pinpoint what looks.. off..
This picture was colored in Photoshop CS3
Anyway, be harsh if you have to be. Sorry if i rambled.

You are off to a good start, but you need to use reference and learn your anatomy. The head at that angle makes the neck look like it may be broken, and the angle of the torso makes it connect to the legs weird. I am not sure of your age so I don't want to directly link to reference pics, but if you are on deviantart, go into the resource stock section and look up "warrior" poses in the model section. They have an awesome amount of reference photos for you to draw from. Create a layer ontop of that pic and break it down into shapes and lines, so you can see and understand how different part of the body connect to eachother. Once you have done that, redraw your pic, just the lineart, and post and we can go from there :)

If you are good at pencil drawings make one in pencil, use a fine liner and trace the main lines. After that you scan it in and use it as a ref layer in Photoshop. When you want to show the areas of shading use diagonal lines in those places on the drawing.
It helped me on several drawings.

If you want to be closer to marvel style I suggest you trace an image of marvels and see what awesome technique you can pick up. I traced Jim Lee's superman images and learned a whole lot from just tracing it for a school project. I would see replicated lines and shade which now I use today on my art.
