Hello all.
I just installed SoftImage 2010 and I'm, having some problems with it, namely, it crashes on start-up. I've consulted the troubleshooting wiki at http://softimage.wiki.softimage.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_Startup_Problems, and have done the test that shows if its a graphics driver or not, and evidently it is, or at least I think. Here's the first thing that happened before I did the graphics driver test.

When I choose OK, the task manager says its unresponsive and it crashes to the desk top. After I start it up again, heres what I get:

Whether I choose yes or no, I end up with the first screen shot again, and another crash. But when I stumbled on the troubleshooting wiki, I tried the display driver fix, I end up with this:

I guess this is progress because at least it's not crashing right off the bat, but here's the catch: If I switch to a different layout, I end up with the first screenshot again, which i guess makes sense. I've tried eveything else on that page, except for the clean boot, which I'll try after this writing. I've removed both quicktime and iTunes, run the runonce.bat command, renamed my folder, updated my graphics card driver, I don't see any crash backup files (maybe I'm not looking in the right place, where are they?), and I don't have zone alarm, so there should be no problem there. I've also downloaded Softimage SP1Maybe someone could offer me some help, heres my computer specs:

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (maybe this is the problem)
AMD Turion 64 x2 1.90GHz (each processor)
4 gb RAM
32 Bit
NVIDIA GeForce 7150M

3ds Max, Maya, Mudbox, and Motionbuilder all run fine, its just this one program. I have yet register the software for the 30 days support, which I'll do if I can't find any help here. Thanks.

Please excuse my double post.
Clean booting seems to have worked. Does anybody have any idea what program might be causing the crash? Like I said, there's no quicktime or iTunes. I guess I'll just clean boot every time I use Softimage.

First thing I'd try (after "runonce.bat" and "renaming the user folder" that is, is going into the HIDDEN "system" folder in the directory of your active project and delete any "autosave"- and "crash backup"-files (but not the folders that contain them). This should break the "load on startup"-cycle.

I would use Process Monitor (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx)or Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) to see what other processes are running.
Or use msconfig to progressively narrow down the possibilities eg keep enabling things and rebooting until Softimage stops working.
