Final film is up! It took around 350 hours to create. I don't know what to think of it. I'm certainly proud of all the hard work I did for it. I had a tremendous group of friends, family and an incredible wife which helped me through what was a very tough slog. Forget the animation side of things for a second, that was one of the most enlightening parts of the whole experience.

As for the film....I think I need a little time to decompress to view it very objectively. I had a huge amount of direction and help from my two Animation Mentors: Sean Sexton (http://www.animationmentor.com/newsletter/0707/feature_mentor.html) from Dreamworks and Elliot Bour (http://www.elliotbour.com/biography.html) of Disney. Really amazing animators/directors and kind people, so whatever success this film brings me, it'll be in large part because of their passion and tremendous direction.

I certainly learned a ton making it, even if all that learning didn't make it in, I'm a much stronger animator than when I started. I'd say the most difficult aspect of making it was trying to keep the tension high, and the audience involved...all without dialogue. Wow...dialogue is your friend, you can get away with murder if the dialogue is awesome, and very very little if you don't have any at all! I think I think I was relatively successful, though battled between letting a character 'breathe' for a second vs keeping the cuts tight.

It was also hugely difficult to deal with the number of props, and number of characters. All aboard the pain train in that respect.

Learned a lot of about posing as well. I think I set myself up for a pretty tough time with all the props, and environment interactions. There are some weak poses throughout, but I kept things feeling 'heavy' for the most part. Something to work on at any rate.

Nice work Brad! A lot of character and excitement here.

I think it would be good to have an opening shot and title screen - maybe him coming into town and everyone running off because hes such a bad ass - before he enters the saloon.

Might be cool to see others in the saloon or them running out - again cause hes a badass.

Would be funny t add a punchline at the end - like he leaves all jolly and happy or something funny to show hes not so mean and scary after all.

Just my ,02 - liked it though. ood lighting and rendering as well.

Thanks Matt! Those are great ideas. In the spring I'm going to go back in for some fixes, so an establishing shot might be just what the doctor ordered.

nise animation i like it the move & modeling but the textures hes need more work ok

really cool animation and rendering man.
the only small critique from my side is the last spin of the main guy /
I dont think the idea is working
Maybe its because he is grabbing a glass doing a lot of body rotation to his left then the spin is oposite direction to his right - maybe thats why it dosent work for me / (specially thats its so quick it looks like one animation)

Hey Guys! Yeah I really struggled with that last shot. I'm going to make some fixes next month, so I'll definitely incorporate some of the advice here!

Hey, here are my thoughts:

-Nice animation, lots of great poses.
-Nice lighting for the most part, although some of it is weird. The main light source seems to be coming from behind the cowboy (the doors), yet in some shots the bartender is lit from screen right which is kind of weird.
-Sounds are pretty clunky. Most are too loud, of poor quality and some don't even line up (some footsteps are off, the sound of the straw going into the drink is off). Also you've put a lot of emphasis on certain foley sounds, but completely ignored others. For example, we hear the drink get slammed down, the nutcracker machine get slammed down, yet the bartender's clothing and feet in those shots don't make any sounds (ie, clothing rustling, footsteps, etc). When we expect to hear something and we don't, it breaks the atmosphere a bit and draws more attention to the other sounds which have the problems listed above.
-Probably my biggest critique: story is very awkward. It looks like a clip from a longer sequence rather than a standalone sequence because there's no real payoff. After all, we have all this moody music, tense acting and shot composition....and the payoff is....he takes a drink? Maybe I didn't get the gag.

Overall, not that effective as a standalone story, but very effective as an animation reel. Great job!

Really strong animation, loved the characters, but the ending fell short for me. It just, ended. I think an establishing shot, and then a tweaked ending with more hmph! would make this golden.

But again, spectacular animation!

It was great though I agree with Michael. He just sips and there, somehow it does not justify the bartenders actions and fear.

Also the spinning and excessive bending does not go well with me. Well maybe its just me, I just don't know what to look at.

The animation is pretty solid however at the risk of repeating whats already been said this didnt really do it for me story wise, it will work great as part of a larger reel though

liked the humor, the exaggerated movement, sound was a bit poor but VERY fun to watch, nice lighting, and camera placement was stylish going along with the stylish character motion. cool stuff man!

nice meeting you at the after party of the graduation man. Really great short you've ended up with. But for you it's probaly more exiting what Mass Effect 2 is doing right now. Also looks really impressif. They even called it the "might be the game of the year surprise at the end of the year" game. Great work Brad!
