View Full Version : EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216
goldilocks20 01-13-2010, 12:39 PM Is this graphic card any good? I know that it is a bit expensive, but its power efficiency is remarkable. It has power efficiency although other reviews say it is one of the slowest graphic cards. Thoughts?

I have the superclocked edition. I love it. Stable, good drivers from NVidia. Might not be the fasted card for games but it's solid. Works great with all apps, Maya, Mudbox, CS4, ZBrush, Softimage etc..

I don't know about the EVGA GTX260 specifically, but the 260 in general will certainly be my next budget gaming/graphics card. I say go for it.

I would say it is a pretty decent choice though I will definitely go for HIS Radeon HD5970 2GB DDR5 if I have the cash. :D

We were discussing good budget options, not flagship most-expensive in-class options.
Think about it.
It's a great card for me.Maya runs fine ,mudbox also with all viewport filters on and 20 million polygons. Also call of duty modern warfare2 in 1680 x 1050 all graphics full and AA x2 runs smoothly.

Not directly related but this new CUDA based Render Engine http://www.refractivesoftware.com/faq.html says GTX260 is the best Performance to Price ratio.

As other peoples have said allready, itīs probably not the best graphics card for the newest games, but it is a great card for any 2D/3D/Audio/Video production pipeline. We use this card too in combination with C4D 10.5, AE CS4 and PS CS4.

The GTX 275 offers you the best performance/price combo.
You can play Crysis at full settings on a 1920 wide resolution whereas the GTX 260 struggles just a little.

The GTX 275 is over $100 more than the 260. It's 60% more expensive. I doubt it's 60% more powerful. There is a cheaper version, but not from EVGA and it would appear that most manufacturers are discontinuing the 275 models.
Crysis- "the GTX 260 struggles just a little."
This is indeed correct. I tested Crysis with mine for giggles and it's not flawlessly smooth, you'd have to turn down quality settings to get it perfect.
