View Full Version : Visual Effects: Smoky character
braam 08-26-2003, 10:46 AM I am using Maya and planning to do something great. I want to use the element of the smoke coming from the cup to form the shapes of the smoky character that run/kick/jump around the cup. The secondary/floating smoke need to trail behind him or affected by his physical movements.
I have my own technique, but any idea of how to do it better is welcome. I want to use mixed technique and composite together in later stage, so you are able to control each layers independently. It has to be high quality animation.
Any comments regarding this project are welcome...
Cheers
Braam

This sounds to me like it might get a better response in the Maya forum, being that it is mostly a Maya-specific effects query...

Leigh the Moderatrix,
Hoe is jou Lightwave Texturing boek?
Groete

Hehehe my Afrikaans is nie so goed as dit het in skool gewees... hmmm my LW book gaan goed, dankie :) So baie werk, maar cool werk! Ek hoop dat Rory geniet sy nuwe job - ek moes hom email.
Ek het baie van jou daar by die UCAA gehoor - ek is 'n part time lecturer vir texturing daar nou. Ek het jou werk daar gesien - dis baie goed! :D
Ek hoop dat jy Wicked Pixels geniet - dis 'n baie cool studio :D

Sorry Bram, I don't use Maya... but I heard you could control particles with bitmaps as target formations in Maya... so you could draw keyframes in Photoshop and have maya interpolate the movement I suppose...

Anyway, I see now that that wasn't what you were asking... the reason I commented was that Afrikaans looks just like the way the swedish chef in the muppets talks! Wow!

Well, I thought that det verkar som dutch is fairly similar to Afrikaans. Which is ett ganska weird language per se.... And my Afrikaans is nie so goed either actually. :D Makes me wonder why dutch people are always clearing their throat medan de pratar :)

:D Now everyone is talking about Afrikaans, he he.
Afrikaans is derived from Dutch after Jan van Riebeeck came from Netherlands.

Hope everyone is cramming my language :)

LOL jag tycker om din mix av språk (min Svenska är inte så bra, forlåt mig!) Afrikaans people don't clear their throats so much in between their words though, although their voices are often pretty gruff :D
Och yeah - Afrikaans är ganska similar to Dutch. As Braam said it is derived directly from it.
And Razorwolf, yep, most South Africans can understand spoken/written Dutch :D

hows that? Hmmm, probably should have payed more attention in afrikaans class instead of using it to catch up on sleep.
Hey braam, this is Ian who went to UCAA with you. I'm now in Australia, will probably write you an email, but for now.....I'm going to sleep. It may be 3:30 there, but its 11:30 here. Wait, come to think of it 11:30 is also early, why am I so tired .....I'm becoming decrepid in my old age. Gotta cut down on those late night cgtalk sessions!
Cheers bru
