Hello,

time limit for this weeks challenge is 2h.

- The speed modelling challenges are open to everybody. If you're registered on the forums you can participate.
- Every week you get a list of items. Pick at least one and try to model it as fast as possible. If you want, you can do all of them.
- Do not exceed the time limit of the challenge. If you're out of time and still haven't finished, post the unfinished model. Speed is key!
- Focus on modelling. Shading, lightning and "proper" rendering are optional (and thus not limited by time).
- Take as much time for reference hunting as you need.
- When posting your model make sure you post a wireframe of your model. (try to do more then one view of the model).
- You can do any challenge you want. The challenges are not closed when the week passes. If you fancy an older challenge, do that.
- The most important rule - enjoy it.

Items :
- inear headphones,
- windsurf,
- grandfather clock,
- a penguin,
- the hubble space telescope.

have fun!

I'd love to do the hubble one. Does anybody know of any good places to get reference images for it? All the google searches I do seem to either be of the images it takes and not of the telescope or from the shuttle and are either far away or really distorted.

I use imageshack (http://imageshack.us/), works pretty good. Then just paste the .jpg from imageshack into here.

Check wikipedia :) And if you search for "Hubble space telescope" you get a pictures of Hubble. Sadly there are no blueprints on the-blueprints.com :(

Grandfather Clock
Total Time: 2 hours

http://www.shonmitchell.com/images/ClockScreens.jpg

wasn't able to get the level of detail i was going for in the alloted time. gonna review where i was slow and try and find a faster way. also going to go back and finish this one out without the time constraint and focus on getting the right amount of detail on it...love grandfather clocks. still missing the hands, the clock face detail, and side paneling

...Lame

HCGremlin: That's still very impressive amount of detail given the limited time. I just used simple planes with transparency map for hands and that very complex looking ornament plate located above the circular weight, they're so thin that they might as well be flat planes and you won't be able to tell the difference.

Or, I'm just lazy like that....

Penguin - 30mins
I just can't figure out how to model organic stuff with details, so I kept it simple.

Hubble Space Telescope - 1h 30min
There's some good pics at http://hubblesite.org/gallery/spacecraft/ to use as guidelines.
Since there was no way I could get it accurate due to sheer amount of small bits and pieces, I took "artistic freedom" in couple places to add some generic detail pieces here and there.

Good going everyone! I really like this part of the forum.

This is my first post on this forum, and it's my attempt at the windsurf. It took me around 1,5h to do. Hope you like it!
