View Full Version : Demo Reel: Game Artist/Character Animator
rAndall 08-26-2003, 09:18 AM This is my latest demo reel. It was edited together the morning of my flight to San Diego for Siggraph 2003. This reel shows my strengths in Game Art and Character Animation. Feel free to comment or critique my work.

I love game and my work is game too.:)
Hi Randall,
I just watched your reel. Your strengths are definitely modeling and texturing. The first two characters, church tower, and dirty kitchen scene come to mind. However, the animation is not as high-quality as your modeling. The initial run cycle is great, but the scenes with the blue character and house on spooky hill could use a little more exaggeration. The latter especially needs something, that clip doesn't show off your strengths at all. I know you can put out great animation, as evidenced by Max and Buddy, with the child standing on his head- that should come before the blue guy and house on spooky hill.
All in all, I love your reel, and good job.

Yea, Game Art is some good stuff.
Tbrusher-
Thanks for you comments man. The blue character is actually an older animation I did. I'm sure I could have pushed it a lot more than I originally had. The Max and Buddy work is my latest animation work as of now. So, I guess its fair to say i am progressing in that area.
Unfortunately, I'm trying to be a jack of all trades and hit every area, but I love doing all of it. Modeling and painting textures is great fun but, there is so much more you can get out of your work when you go into animation. I hope to nail it down to something specific for my career. Though, I will still be covering all the bases with my own work. Glad you enjoyed the reel. Thanks again!

thats some good stuff, but, i only have one but, the car you modeled is not suited for todays games, so you might aswell model a real car, real car as in detailed but lowpoly, with interior at least, the days of having cars with black windows are over.
Good job on the characters.

Yea, RmachucaA I would have to agree with you there.
I know that most Racing and Sim games the cars are the primary focus and they are at an amazing detail level now and the past couple years. I think i did this one more around the Grand Theft Auto resolution, except for the inside. I did check out your Ford focus thread and It seemed very nice.. so you know what you are talking about. Very nice work! Thanks for your comments.
