Hi,
just wanted to achieve the same effect as Maya 's sculpt deformer tool in XSI.
I tried all the deformers but they don't seem to work like Maya.
What I need is a volume (sphere, cube, etc...) that is able to deform a mesh when it comes in contact with it... well, just like Maya 's sculpt deformer as I said.:p

Thanks for your help !

try this

CreatePrim "Sphere", "MeshSurface"
SetValue "sphere.polymsh.geom.subdivu", 16
SetValue "sphere.polymsh.geom.subdivv", 16
GetPrimVolumeDeform

It's called Volume Deform and you activate/deactivate with Shift - V. So move it around deavtivate it and move it to a new position and activate it again. It will be affected by Translation, Rotation and Scale.

Similar but not the same.

I hope it helps

Thanks StefanA,
but this time it's not exactly what I was looking for.
With Volume Deform the vertices of the deformed mesh stick to the volume deformer, I just need the mesh to be displaced by the volume just like a mouse walking under a carpet !
The mouse produces a bump where it walks and does not hold the carpet in its mouth and pull it.
Maybe I missed something with Volume Deform.
I'll try with soft bodies and collisions, maybe it will work.

with a little help from the XSI list I managed to make a mouse under the carpet :)

http://home.tiscali.se/sbanders/Mouse_Under_Carpet.mpg

It's grid with a lattice. Create the lattice and unparent it from the grid. Then animate the X and Z position of the lattice.

I hope that helps a little.

You can make a lattice more like a sculpt deformer, by having a 5x5x5 + lattice leaving the outer 2 points alone and adjusting the inner ones to deform how you want, then turn off effect by scaling and position.
