Didn't you once post a fg rendered box? I was wondering what happened to you. I heard the national film board of Canada was looking at you for the box division. Now I guess you are really going places.

Good work!

This is very good, but I am afraid it isn't geared towards getting a job in the game industry. These models are way too high poly to be game art. Most art directors will look at this and acknowledge that it kicks ass, but then throw it away because it doesn't fit what they are looking for. If you want to get a job in games then you need low poly characters and to show some more texture work. Don't get me wrong though, you have some serious skills. Very nice.

Your work is awesome--clean, detailed, and well designed. I'd love to animate those models, they've definitely got personality :)

Some small crits: That music is god-awful annoying. No offense if you created it; maybe it's just not my style. Plus, I thought it was kind of 'taboo' to use music with lyrics in a reel: too distracting.

If you must use it, you should work on syncing the reel with the music: cut and reveal the elements on the beat changes. Techno beats have a lot of potential to enhance the images this way, but right now it seems to almost overpower the imagery. I went back and watched it without the music, and everything seemed to look better...

Also, you credit a concept art shot to someone else, yet credit yourself with "All Visual Elements" at the end. If I can point that out, what's a potential employer going to think when he/she sees that? I'm not accusing you of trying to take credit for someone else's work (I'm sure it's just an oversight), but I've been told to really watch out for stuff like this. Just something to think about.

Anyway, these crits don't matter, 'cause your work is the shit. I just thought you probably came to cgtalk and posted it here hoping for some criticism, and here it is! ;)

Thanks everyone,

Antonio, after careful consideration everyone at vfs(including guest speakers from Lucas Arts, ILM, and Relic) said do a high poly reel.

It's my first reel, these are my first completed characters and set, doing them high poly gave me the practice as a modeler, texturer, and rigger. Not only that but it applys to future technology that is starting to take affect in games today by the use of render and normal mapping.

So that is the reasoning behind the quality of the models, I do hope to be adding low poly stuff to my portfolio site soon.

|Obscure3D|, Thanks for the comments, they were most helpful. My intentions of having crediting Khang with the concept was to at least note that when it states "All Visual Elements" it means just that, except where noted.

Perhaps it was a lazy approach, if you have suggestions on what I could change it to without listing every detail I did on it, I would appreciate it. But I have talked to Khang and had him look over everything and he seemed fine with it; however there is the possibility of confusing the user like you stated.

Thanks again to everyone, good comments are uplifting, friendly criticisms are helpful :)

Don't worry, I'm sure it's not a problem. Probably just over-sensitivity and paranoia on my part (it's been pounded in my head to really watch out for taking credit for other people's work--even accidentally). After all, I had to find *something* to critique, damn it ;)

By the way, how many polys are in each of those characters? They don't look too extreme to me.

I just watched it again, and I still love your characters. Great stuff. Good luck on the job hunt (although I have a feeling you won't have too much trouble).

very nice:thumbsup: , love the characters. The music is a bit distracting though, but i know what its like, so hard to find music that makes the reel flow, and that everyone likes.

Matthewma, very cool characters and modeling. The textures also look very good. Great Job, its all cool! Except for the music.. I heard the first 3 secs and turned it off immediately! That still doesn't distract from the great content. I see you posted your Reel cover as I did in my post. Though yours looks much cooler. :)

Hey guys,

I decided to do a re-edit with some new music(Actually the music I originally intended to put on) it's a bit slower and in a few people's opinions more "boring" but considering the stuff they picked for me was horrid as some of you agreed, I thought I would go with some less "offensive" stuff :)

And Strang, I have to say I recommend VFS completely for 3D stuff, and the work was hard, but really awesome at times(ok the end was not so fun, hehehe) as for it paying off? I'm happy with what I got out of the school, I'll be even more happy if I get a job with it :)

Matthew;

I think your final reel looks great! I have one suggestion and a wish:

You might want to include the soft contraint rigging you did for Pan in the reel, not just on your site.

I wish you had included more of that awesome set. I hope you get it working for a future update to the reel!

Looking really good!

will.

what do they feed you guys at this school. Very nice indeed. I may be wrong but I think they like to see more low-poly stuff when looking for work in games
