Hey,

I've some .mts (AVCHD) files, but unfortunately Premiere Pro CS3 doesn't support this file format. Is there any easy/cheap (read: free) way to lossless convert this to another file format which can be used for editing.

Thanks in advance!

what OS?

There is a tool under osx called "clipwrap" which lets anything that read quicktime also read them.

Forgot to mention that ffxmpeg can rewrap them for free. But it is a little bit of a PITA and requires running a few command line options on the file.

My OS is Windows. Though I have a macbook, I prefer the editing on my Windows PC as that is where the rest of my needed software is installed. Though thanks for these options anyway.

Is it possible to use hdffxvrt under windows and convert to a lossless format. So 1920x1080 lossless? =)

Thanks a lot anyway.

Roy

It's a csh script wrapper for the ffmpeg command line app. So you just need to be able to run the same shell on your windows box. Look into installing cygwin and in the installer there should be an option to install many other unix like tools of which ffmpeg should be one of the options.

This is the one you've been looking for: http://www.avid.com/dnxhd/

It's quite similar to Apple's ProRes, although DNxHD has arguably higher quality.

what does prores/dnxhd have anything to do with converting AVCHD/.mts files to another format?

You need convert the MTS files for editing purposes as working with raw MTS files is too slow. The Pavtube MTS Converter software was very easy to use and I had no issues with converting my files. The speed and quality was fine for my purposes.
