Not sure exactly how you have your softbody set up, but if I was going to do it this is what I would try:

Make the geometry into a softbody, with duplicate on (either the original or the duplicate soft) and make original/duplicate a goal depending on which you choose to make soft.

Don't parent the softbody to the head, otherwise all the particles will move with it and not bounce around as well as you want. Instead parent the softbody goal geometry to the head, then the softbody will follow the goal.

Hide the goal object so it won't render. Now you will still be seeing the same thing as before, rigid movement. This is because the goal weights are all 1, so the softbody still sticks in place to its goal, you need to edit the weights so that the root of the hairs are at 1, and they go down to 0 (or just a low number) at the hair tips.

Then add whatever forces/springs etc that you had on your original softbody to get the movement that you want with the hair attached to the head.

I hope this helps and that I have got it right, still pretty new to this myself.

This tutorial by gmask: http://www.gmask.com/tutorials/hairtut/hairtut.shtml shows what I am trying to say, from the 'Making the hair template into a softbody surface:' onwards

Heres a .gif I made to show what I mean, just a quick rabbit type thing, with a couple of floppy ears instead of lots of hair.

http://www.warwick.ac.uk/~maucaw/Rabbit.gif

The file is about 5.7MBs, don't try to download until about 25 mins after the time this post was made, as I need to go out and its still uploading :p

Just apply the same techinique to your hair and then change the values around to get a better looking effect. If anyone can recommend a good way to get it to collide with the head (it seems to clip alot with just making the softbody particles collide with the head geometry, maybe the ears/hair needs to have more CVS/particles).

aii, posted it as an image to be loaded, and for some reason the edit post button does not work. I'll disable the previous links file to stop people having to load all 5.7MBs on this page :o

Go here to load the actual file:

Your hair looks pretty good already, I like the style of it. Maybe if you added more strands that pass over one another then the collisions would not be so important or noticeable, especially with a good shader on. But then that would lose the current look that you have.

This .gif shows how I would go about setting up the collisions:

http://www.warwick.ac.uk/~maucaw/RabbitCollide.gif

but I really don't see that it makes all that much difference.

Heres some suggestions for maybe making it collide a little better, but I've not had much luck with it to be honest:

1. Increase the Trace Depth on the softbody particles
2. Increase the Tesselation Factor in the softbody geoconnector node.
3. Add addition isoparms around the initial geometry before making it into a softbody. Then there will be more particles on the geometry and so more accurate collisions will occur.

I don't know much about how Maya works really, so this may in fact be doing nothing at all

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Mmmm .....

thx u Answer my Problem.

but your link is error

i can`t find

Increase the Trace Depth on the softbody particles

your Meaning :

added more isoparms is nurbs hair
acquire more softbody particles
so more accurate collisions will occur.

right ??

I've fixed the collision link, had named it incorrectly.

To your last question; yes, I think if the softbody geometry has more particles then the collisions will work alot better.
