View Full Version : Grey are in normal map
pananag 01-10-2010, 10:07 AM I'm trying to create a normal map of a high poly mesh. I have created a low poly copy and then I select the high poly first and then the low poly (by Shift-right click). Bake options are set to normals,tangent,selected to active. When I press BAKE I get the result of the image.
Why this grey area appears?

I think I've had this same problem once,
cause was that I baked over an earlier bake of 32bpc* displacement map.
in the uv image editor, try making a new image (image > new),
and saving the file to disk before you bake on it.
if that doesn't help, try playing with the bias setting in the bake properties.
bpc = bits per channel.

I've tried everything you suggested but to no avail. Any other ideas?
Only idea left is that it's a bug with your specific blender version,
may I ask which version your using?

Maybe I'm wrong, but anyway... have you got all the normals pointing outside the mesh?

Solved! The problem was that my mesh had more than one UV Textures (I was experimenting with projection painting) I had forgotten to erase.When I erased them, the problem was gone.
Thanks everybody for their help.
