well i'm modelling a girl...hmm....anyways this being my first character model...i'm using Maya 4.5 unlimited...and i've been wondering about something.

I've started off in nurbs but the only reason for my choice was teh fact that i read that paint effects and fur are not supported for subdiv and poly models.

If someone uses polys or subdivs to model a character....what happens at the texturing/hair stage for those?

thanx

use poly modeling.
start witch eyes or lips, and raise your model to nose and... using sketches is good way.

definitley polys, nurbs are painful... subD's I haven't tried yet, but now you got me thinking and I'm probably gonna be up all night now trying subD's....

*mutters about sleep as maya loads...*

polies.
nurbs are to unhandy, but better for a uv setup....
and subD's are pretty slow, so just start with a box or anything you like and go on with modelling :)

as far as hair goes, generally what i do is make a nurbs "wig", which i place just under the scalp of the poly charactor, and then add hair to that, and as far as texturing goes you just have to spend a little time adjusting the uv's when it comes to polys. When it comes to texturing I build texture maps in photoshop, never thought about using paint effects, I'd imagine it would be limited
