hi!

I need a little explanation.

I've installed Vue 8 xstream PLE on 3dsmax 2010+Vray.

All seems to work as expected, I've just a doubt about GI: I notice that (once started a new vue scene in 3dsmax) I can switch on both Vue Global Radiosity (Atmosphere Editor) and Vray Global Illumination.

Which is the correct workflow?
I've to activate both because Vue Global Radiosity influences just vue proxy and vray GI all the other meshes?

Can please someone make me clearer which is the correct workflow to create an exterior scene in 3dsmax+vray using vue vegetation? In particular about illumination?

Thank you very much!

I don't have Vue with Max but C4D, but the workflow is the same:
If you don't enable Vue's GR, radiosity won't be computed for the Vue scene, but the Vue elements will contribute to the global illumination of your Max scene if you set up GI in VRay.
Of course there could be a mismatch between Max and Vue elements witout Vue's GR ( Vue elements could appear too dark), but it's worth considering AO only for the Vue scene. It's faster and gives good results.

thank you bruno.

So Vue's GR affects just vue elemets and not other geometry into the scene, and viceversa vray GI affetcs only not vue geometries.

What about the sun?

if into 3dsmax (c4d in your case) I create a new Vue scene, automatically these objects are created: a ground, a camera and a sun light.

For me it appears that the sun light created automatically (and vue's GR + vrya GI both on) works good for vue proxies but not so good for other 3dsmax geometries.
What I've to do is to create a new sunlight (and say to the vue sunlight to match this one) and all seems to work better.

It's the same for you?

I hope I was clear enough.

P.s.
Are you italian? :)

Hi, no I'm not Italian, I'm French.
What happens is this: when you create a Vue scene with a Vue sunlight, a native sunlight is created, in your case a Vray sunlight, with matching orientation, colour and shadows, so you shouldn't need to add a native light. If you say that the Max scene uses GI, then indirect lighting coming from the Vue scene will be taken into account in your Max scene, with color bleeding, unless you disconnect the Vue scene from Max Final gather. Same for the Vue scene, native scene elements will contribute to Vue's GI, unless you disconnect the Max scene from Vue's final gather.
Now I don't know how Vray works, but normally, settings should be pretty much the same as rendering with Mental Ray, if this helps.
If you see differences between renderers results, check that both final gathers are not disconnected. Then try changing Final gathers scales from the xStream options box, scaling FG modify the contribution of native/vue elements to the GI of the scene.

DUDE id like to help but...
im having problems rendering my scenes in vray...it wont basically..
Is it because im using vray sp1? Does vue xstream8 only work with later versions of vray??
I have assigned vray as my renderer and also added the xstream vray in environments but am getting a black image not even alpha.
am i missing something??

hope some one can shed some light on this

thanks

Well.. I can show you my workflow, and you can compare:

-I've installed 3dsmax 2010 64bit / Vray 1.5SP4a / Vue 8 PLE xStream
-Launched 3dsmax and set Vray like default render engine, close and restart 3dsmax, in this way Vue xStream will be set to work with Vray automatically
-Now all is ready, just click on menu Vue 8 Xtream-->File-->New and a new ground/sun/camera will be created and also an "xStreamVray" atmosphere effect will be added.

If I add a teapot into the scene and I start rendering I can see it well illuminated by the sunlight, with shadow and so on...
