View Full Version : Mental ray volume shaders without caustics

Hi everyone,

Can mental ray volume shaders (like parti_volume) work/render WITHOUT caustics (caustics is disabled). Can the mental ray volume shaders work only with global illumination enabled? (the caustics option is disabled)

The mental ray volume shader (parti_volume) is independent of GI or caustics.

The MR volume photon shader (parti_volume_photon) is the shader used for GI and caustics, generally used in conjunction with the regular parti_volume in your other Shading Group slots.

If you're having trouble with the parti_volume, maybe post a screenshot of your Shading Group attributes? Sometimes, just putting the shader in key slots makes a world of difference, and parti_volume can be a struggle to work with at first.
