Hi everyone,

so I threw a jiggle deformer on a character and noticed that I could no longer paint weights on that character (it doesn't recognize that it has a skinCluster anymore). Upon looking through my hypergraph I found that maya had created a new instance of my mesh Node connected to the old mesh node. The old mesh node has my skin and muscle systems on it.
This old mesh node is now no longer visible in the outliner and I cannot get it to reveal but I can get it to parent to transform nodes using "parent -r -s". Any suggestions on how to get this back into the land of the living?

Thanks!

first thing I might do, is check in the Hypershader to see what connections were showing.

if you can click on the mesh with the jiggle deformer, you may want to try reordering the inputs. Select the mesh then Right click select inputs>show all inputs

With out seeing anything these would be my first steps, sans stepping back to a previous interation and watching more closely what happens.

I have the feeling that it might be the same problem described here:

if you think your case is similar to this you might try this workaround:

Select the object, Show intermediate objects, paint on the intermediate shape. Sometimes it works. I have reported this as bug to Autodesk long time ago but it is still available even in 2010.

Hey thanks Darksuit,

I fixed it *kinda* by plugging in my maya muscle system into the new mesh node. I'd still like to know how the hell to get my original mesh nodes back, but I can paint weights now so that's good.
The old mesh was daisychained to the new mesh and with via .inputMesh > .outputMesh but the inputs were still on the old mesh. You would think you'd be able to see the old mesh node in the outliner but its not there as I mentioned. When I select it via the Hypergraph it, the outliner highlights the hierarchy like normal but there is no node selected at the end. Also the old mesh is invisible despite having visibility on (not in a layer, no overrides, nothing else weird about it).

scroll-lock: That's the issue, thanks!

Thanks for the help!
