Finally my first own car project is done. I have been working with 3d max for 9 months now. I have done some smaller work before and 1 car step by step from a tutorial. This is the first one I did without much help.

It is totally made in 3dmax 5.1, rendered with Brazil 1.0.3 and textured with Photoshop.

I know the surroundings are missing but I am too happy the car is finally done that I had to share it with you.

There is always room for improvement, so fire away.

If you want a bigger picture of any of these renders drop me an email they are available in at least 1600x1200 and some even up to 4000x300.

the tires are way too small and needs some work as regards the texture + bump in my opinion.

also reduce a bit the reflectivity - would look better i think.

otherwise its a nice work . would like to see it with an environment / surroundings :)

way too much pinching of the edges, and too much reflection also.

yea... maybe reverse the map ... so it has indents int he tire instead of knobbies.

The reflectivity levels are fine, but the environment map is letting your whole scene down. The one you have is waaay too contrasty, the extreme levels of highlight and darkness act to break up the surface of the car too much, producing a camouflage effect. I can't really tell if it's a good model or not.

Get a different environment map, something taken from outdoors on a sunny day.

Also the blue version is a bit of an odd color, too saturated, too much red. Tint the blue so it's a little more cyan...here's the real thing:

Thanx for the comments, I know now the shinyness and extreme reflections come from the hdri rendering. A plain GI render doesnt have this high reflection (Tested it last night).
The tires are as they supposed to be, i chose to put Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires under the car. These are exact copies of those tires so the dents should be dents :).
I will try an outdoor env map with HDRi and if that doesnt work I will use a plain GI render with an env map for reflections

Judging from the reflections, I would say you have to tweak your mesh a bit more... The car apeears very "denty"..

You did an awesome job with the lights, front and rear. So I'm suprised that the modeling isn't on par with it. I've only tried modeling a car once and found that the body work wasn't quite as hard as the lights. I reckon your next car should be tops..not that this isn't very nice in its own right.

OK after listening to all the advice I changed the HDRi map and then i changed the settings of the HDRi and fooled around with those tille I liked them.

Instead of using a home made carpaint shader I went for the brazil carpaint shader and made some pretty colors I liked. Not the specific Nissan Skyline colors but I like them.

What do you guys think about them now? Better? Will I ever make frontpage material you think?

id say you messed up a little on the door, the tires are great - they're supposed to be thin for better traction and airways

its greaT!
