Maybe people are just not at thier computers today.

i loved the clean cel quality render. The old grandma scene had me rolling. you have a great sense of timing which i think is the most important factor in any animation.

This is really, really good stuff
I was almost rolling on the floor laughing when the monster appeared the first time and met captain blasty! The best thing is how the monster moves, thatīs just perfect :scream:
I just wished the end would be more like the beginning - Maybe itīs just me, but I found the start a lot more funny than the end.
Nevertheless, this is extremely good AND funny stuff!
Why isnīt this on the front page?

Downloading from the generously provided mirror now, albeit slowly... I wonder, what would be involved in CGTalk\CGNetworks perhaps setting up a BitTorrent for front page material?
For those that don't know, BitTorrent is a distributed downloading program that takes the pressure off of the server hosting the file and distributes it very lightly over the people downloading it. The more the people are downloading it, the faster it goes, even for the newest downloads! Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory had some BitTorrent mirrors set up, and since the demand was high for it I was able to download it an hour after release at 300kbps+, and only 20kbps-30kbps of my bandwidth was going upstream as I downloaded. Without BitTorrent, I'd have gotten 5kbps or less, if at all. Best of all is that it's free.
BitTorrent can be found here: http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/
It's a really terrific program, and since demand is so high for this video, it would make sense to do this for the most popular files. I admit, though, that I'm still unsure of what is involved in actually setting one up but I don't believe it would impact CGTalk\CGNetwork's bandwidth since the burden is distributed fairly over the downloaders. :)
Just a thought. Gack, 27 minutes left. :)

1.7kbps at the mo :D
I second that vote for BitTorrent. No idea how difficult it is to set up the server side of it, but for the user it's dead easy - just install and forget about it. That matrix trailer that came out the other day wouldn't even connect directly, the server was so swamped. Came down at 200kbps via BitTorrent tho :buttrock:

great overall feel.
i like the zealous effort.
however, in my opinion, one negative thing that really stood out was your [accidental?] overuse of twinning and symmetry in your animation. some timing was also a bit aggresive in parts.
good luck with the imminent job hunt.

There are some things to work on but still some really great work. Congrats on the attention I am sure you will get some calls.
He could work on a few of his transitions and some of the anticipation is a little off. But those few niggling things are negligible and definately fixable.

The short is great. You've got some good animation chops, and the overall design is consistent and fun. I wish there were some more sound effects over the music, though. But, since this an animation reel, not a sound design reel, that's not an important criticism.
Makes me want to animate! Inspiring stuff, keep it up.

looks ok, but reminds me of a bunch of things i've seen before. for this type of style, it could be snappier in some places. more complex movements would help also.
Thanks for all all of your comments! Sorry about the slow download speed, I thought that VFS could've handled it, but many thanks to everyone who provided a mirror!

the animation was sweeeeeeeeet especially ont eh blue monster, both smooth and fluid! Some really nice slapstick comedy elements !

Am I the only one with trouble playing the Divx? I installed Divx5.0.5, had adaware strip away the Gator junk, and then nothing shows up in mediaplayer, just a black square with a "music" type logo as if it was playing some audio CD. Divx still shows as installed in my "Installed Applications" list. Maybe I have to stick with Gator if I want to see divx clips? Btw, the MPG wont download from vfs, guess the servers a little busy.
Some MPG mirror most appreciated!

Well, a 403 error tends to imply that the file is no longer there, or access to the file or folder is being denied by the webserver.
Perhaps you were able to download the file because you downloaded it well before I tried, and before mlum's VFS bandwidth limit was exceeded? I appreciated your advice, but using a download accelerator is not going to work when the file in question is no longer there, or the server is denying access.
I get a 403 error on all the VFS links now, including the straight link to his homepage.

Well, my biggest beef with this piece is that it's just yet another animation featuring a human...I mean come on! Humans have been done to death! It looks just like every other human I've seen; two arms, two legs...boring!
Nowadays, if you want to do something fresh, try a robot or a flying spaceship; something cool! I'm loading my next reel with flying logos! Pixar here I come!

pretty fun...although the pacing is a little even so the timing on the gags isn't most efficient. Also sometimes the weight feels off like on the monster's galoping run...
But it's fun. I'll reproach tht the character design looks a lot like Pixar's The incredibles. Mayeb someone already pointed that out...
But overall it's fun though pretty good work out of school that's for sure. You are definitely on the right track.

Animation is great...If your going for the Pixar style which I think/KNOW you are...
The superhero charecter however is just too much of a blatant rip off of the charecter from the upcoming INCREDIBLES flick from non-other than Pixar, I really think you should have designed him a bit differant...Inspiration is one thing...but Copyright infringement is NOt kool...I'm sure someone from Pixar will see this and perhaps offer you a job based on your animation skills...however....if the wrong Pixar rep sees it, and if he happens to be looking for creativity...it might really flatter him OR it might piss him off to see such a rip-off...

AMAZING.. That was really cool. I would like to know why so many people think this was a rip off of The Incredibles? If you did rip off the character from that movie, do you want a job? Because if you created that entire animation after seeing the incredibles trailer, you are one fast mofo and defineltly need to be hired :) On a side note, I think it would be very difficult in today's erra to make an original square jawed super hero.
P.S. can I ask what technique you used for the train scene? When the are on the roof and the cirty if scrolling behind them. Did you just have the train running a track around a round city street?
It seems that some people are having trouble with the DIVX version. It should work if you try playing it in the Divx Player. If not, I've posted an mpeg version here:
http://www.powow.com/mlum/mlum_320Reel.mpg
I guess I'll mention again that the character in my reel is not a rip-off of the guy from "The Incredibles". I finished all of my chracter design and modeling before the trailer was ever released.
House:
The music is by the band Artichoke (http://www.artichoketheband.com).

Ok.. so I check before work today and I'm still sitting around 500Mb of bandwidth for the month, no biggie.. I just look now... 15.9Gb bandwidth used for the month?!? My site supposedly had a limit of 5 gb/month... why they allowed it to go past that much usage is beyond me.
Anyways.. the file is now removed from the site. Heh. hope the 650 or so people used the link enjoyed the super fast download.
:buttrock:
Was fun to host it while it lasted Mike. :applause:
***EDIT*** Going thru my logs of my site, it seems someone posted my mirror to a Russian site : www.3dfly.com That was the majority of the log downloads of the movie. 2/3 from there, 1/3 from Cgtalk. I should have set it to only allow Cgtalk downloads.. heh.. Cuz that's where I wanted the link to be posted, not another site. Especially one where I don't have to use Babelfish to browse. lol.
***/EDIT***
Again, I repeat : aHHH!!!!!!
