View Full Version : High Poly UVing

Hello CGSociety,

I am currently working on something and im finished with modelling, i took a Low Poly model out of it, UVed it and baked everything... But I want the UV Map to be on the High Poly model so I can put textures directly on the high model instead of the low poly with the normals on. And unwrapping the high poly model is quite difficult as it has a lot of polygons and working in the UV editor is really laggy and almost impossible.

So is there a way to "project" the UV information or the UV Mapping to the high poly model from the low poly, as it is a lot easier to unwrap the low poly...

Help or a link to a tutorial what helps me would be much appreciated! :)

I am not an expert but for UV layouts I have found a great tool, Haedus UV layout, with that one you can uvlayout the high poly version very easy.

Take a look at haedus UV layout, it is a free standing application for UV's and it is very good. It can't unwrap lowpoly to a high poly but it will unwrap the highpoly for you in 5 minutes.

What software are you using? 3dsmax has a projection modifier that does what you're talking about, taking the uvs from one object and project it to another.

I am using 3ds Max and used the Projection modifier to bake normal maps and stuff but I cant find an option to project the UVs onto the High Poly Mesh, or the textures/materials.

Yea, that's what I tried to do :D

Thank you very much for that link... I used the search function but when I hit search it gave me a link to download the search.php instead of the results. They probably fixed it now as it is working, well for the last 5 searches it did... So I couldn't use the search function, sorry :(

But thanks a lot again for that :D
I'm really grateful :)

Actually, I used google to do the search.

Sorry to hear cgtalk's search wasn't working though, glad they fixed it. Good luck with the project!
