View Full Version : need help choosing a graphics card
oldarmodillo 01-02-2010, 03:26 AM I need to get a graphics card for hardware rendering in Maya. I have about 200 dollars max to spend on it and I don't know enough about any of them to choose what to get for hardware rendering. what I've got right now doesn't handle shadow maps very well and doesn't do any volumetric stuff, or glow. if there are graphics cards that do those things and are within budget could anyone let me know?

I recommend you to have a search in E bay for the appropriate graphics card. You can search with the graphics card memory and the budget.

I don't think a graphic card will increase much your rendering times. Ususally graphic cards helps in the viewports. Try the Quadro FX 570 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3617638&Sku=P56-570) its around 200$. If you do not play on your computer then this should be ok.

Before spending any money on graphics hardware make sure that the renderengine you want to use supports it. Only few do it.

The Quadro FX is good. This one is easy on the budget, although it is more for graphic design.
