Is it possible to render a wireframe cell render and have the background transparent? When I bring it in to photoshop I selected the alpha channel and get sold fills insite the selection.

yup :)

just render out a wireframe, white lines on black background, and use it as an alpha in photoshop. e.g. create a new image with transparent background, go to the channels pallete, create new channel (most likely will call itself alpha) and then paste the black/white wire render into it, then go back to the normal transparent layer, go to the selection menu, load selection and choose the alpha you just created, then colour in what's selected and you should have a wireframe

or buy paul everett's wire shader
