View Full Version : Lens flare moving with light

This is a super newbie problem, but anyway here it is:

I create a point light. In point light attributes, I map the Optical FX utility to the light's color. I can can see the lens flare in the center of my view. The strange thing is, it doesn't move away from center when I move the light, nor when I move the camera. How can I get the flare to follow the light? The manual say to create a locator and then shift-select the locator and the light and move. But this does nothing for me. The flare stays in the center of the view. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Alright. I got the flare to follow the light by placing it in the Light Glow node instead of the Point Light Color node (if node is the right term, box, whatever, in the attribute editor.) Anyhow, now I have a new problem. The lensflare direction doesn't automatically cross lens center like lens flares do in real life. I can adjust the lens flare's direction in the Lens Flare Attributes by adjusting Flare Vertical and Flare Horizontal, but oddly, the direction of the flare shown in the Post Process sample window and the editor window don't match.

No response. Hmm. That's pretty disappointing. Coming from Cinema4D which has a very strong user community, I was hoping to find something like that here.

Is there maybe some mel script or node or something to force the lensflare to respond to camera movements in a natural way?

Lens flares should naturally move according to their position in the frame.

Try opening and rendering this simple lens flare file (attached) and see if acts the way you want it to.

It's a Maya 4 file.

Thank you. That helped me figure out what the problem was.
