Wolf-R 08-24-2003, 04:53 PM Hello to everybody ! ;-)
This is my first posting at cgtalk - so I hope I unterstand the whole Guidelines ! ;)
And my first posting is my latest work. An Audi A8 modeled in Max rendered with V-Ray. Polymodelling ( SDS ) 170.000 respectively 782.000 .
The enviroment consists of planes with mappings.

Hey, no photographs are allowed :shame:
Just joking!
One of the greatest works I've seen up to date!
Great job! :beer:
One question: Is that women inside the car modelled, too?

very nice, very realistic.. i thought you posted your reference images at first sight ;-))
well only thing which seems a bit "wrong" is the back of the car.. dont know what exactly it is but it looks not 100% realistic, i think it is the backlights
but all in all, very amazing,... one of the best CG pictures i've ever seen

awesome work! The only thing I think needs a quick tweak is the side mirrors... I dunno what it is about them... maybe just tweak their angle in relation to the car...
good stuff! :eek:

Hi!
Very nice model!
I would tweak the materials a litle bit more.
The Light Cornes (head and taillights) are a litle to sharp.
Last point, i can't see the headlight cleaning system (a bump maps should be enough), check your ref pics.

Thanks for your comments !
@true to xsi: I'm still working on the animation ( I need a renderfarm lol ;) )
@the Rain Knight: the blurry reflexions are from the "planes" ( with treemapping on it ) on the opposite side of the car. I linked the camera to the moving car. So the complete enviroment is moving ( motionblurred ) for the camera and also for the reflexions.
@mwkmn: yes, the woman in the car is also modeled ( SDS too )-- the plan is to create an animation, therefore I need a 3D model.
@onno : thanks for the blueprints :-)
The backlights look different on every reference image so it's difficult to make them look right.
I think the side mirror is ok -- I looked at my refs and I can't see any noticeable difference ;)
@daniel: "the car freak" I think this is the right description for you ;) thanks for your hint at the missing cleaning system.
thanks for the compliments:beer:
I don't like the front and rear lights other then that it's pretty awesome.

As for the taillights, I suggest you make the red part darker and decrease its saturation, and make the white part also darker then give it a little yellowish colour.

So the complete enviroment is moving ( motionblurred ) for the camera and also for the reflexions.
ok for that point :-). But as i try this kind of rendering, i got blured environnement and non blured reflections....because with BRazil for example the motion blur is calculated after image calculation. So reflections are not affected by motion blur calculation !
Is that specific to V Ray ? thx a lot !

I agree that the back lights are not up to the photorealistic standard of the rest of the car.

hmmmmm, ... this is really nicely done. Great materials for the chrome. Is this arnold render or something else ? :)

Hy to everybody !
thanks for comments !
@mwkmn: thanks for your tips !
@the Rain Knight: I think V-Ray renders the motionblur correctly. At V-Ray you can set the GI Samples, Geometrie and Imagesamples for the Motionblur. So the GI also "motionblurred" ;)
@mcf: die Reflexionen der Strasse müßten correkt sein. Die Strasse hat nur sehr wenig Contrast, deswegen gehen die Unregelmäßigkeiten der Strasse am schwarzen Lack verloren.

Amazing realistic. If I had seen this image somewhere on the web, I wouldn't have noticed that's a computer generated Image.

Wolf-R, I would love to know what your material settings were for the car's paint, what HDRI map/settings you used, and what other light sources you had in the scene...
I have been using VRay for almost a month now and I can't get HDRI renderings even CLOSE to this and boy would I sure like to know how :)
Any info would be most appreciated.

Looks great though. Very clean.

@ ApocGFX: I used a hdri Mapping at 1.0
two lights - one for the Sun mult 0.4 ( only diffuse ) and one for the specs only at 0.8 at the same position where the sun is located on the Hdri
For the carpaint i used the multilayer"shader"
@simon reves: I always using normal shadows for the Sun. (outdoor scenes ) I will test it with area shawows ;)
@SRS: hallo grüß dich:beer:
bin ja noch nicht einmal Stammgast lol aber deine Idee wär ein Hit ;)
@garma: what do you mean ?:lightbulb

Well lildragon, what are you waiting for?
You can bring on that CGTalk Award! :D
That is absolutely stunningly realistic. Almost makes it feel a bit pointless though - I mean you could've taken a photograph! :p :rolleyes:

What resolution was the HDRI map???
Did you use any VRay lights other than the HDRI skylight or are the two you talked about regular max direct lights???
What do you mean by "multilayer'shader'"???? If anything I'd probably be most interested in finding out how you setup that material :)
Thanks for the reply

Hy
@skyraider3d: thanks :beer:
@apocGFX: I used the standard max mat´s -- und select the "multi-Layer" at the shader basic params.
at multi layer Basic params diff level 95 Roughness 5
First speculkear level about 110 gloss 99
second spec level about 10 gloss 80
a fallof map, (type: perpendiicular/Parallel direction:viewing direction) as mask for the reflexions
the lights where regular Max lights with Vray shadow ( direcional )
i hope this helps :lightbulb
@onscreen: thank you ----- this car is moving and my "real" car is under repair :thumbsdow must buy a new one i think - sometimes i think it would be better to be virtual lol :surprised
