Hi Im new to this forum (and to 3d)
after reading a bit and watching at all does great pics i decided to join.
These are two shots taken from my animation (forest tear) I am working on right now to get into an artschool in switzerland: Luzern (sur dossier).
its the first scene of three. in the final animation there are leaves flying by the window.

Critiques please...

some last words:
I cant do radiosity, It just takes too long to render, I couldnt hold up with my timeplan (caustics dont work for any reason, maybe wrong settings, but its all activated). Its supposed to be finished by the end of february.

The scene is supposed to look a bit futuristic and cold

the people will be filmed and placed into the scene

all done with dual g4 450, cinema4d 8, ozone and finalcutpro

maybe you can give me some hints (this is my first 3d project):
How would you put the filmed people into the scene I thought about an alpha texture.
If I activate weiche schatten (sorry dont konw the english word: smooth shadows maybe)I get those artefacts on the wall above the window but I noticed when im turning on flächen schatten (flatt shadows), they disappear but it takes much longer to render, what would you recommend?

I want to have I minimal quality of the pictures, but Icant afford handling with all The details too long, Im working day and night already and its not easy learning the programm while working with it, so any hints and so on are very welcome.
Id really would enjoy to keep you up with the latest about this movie

cheers and greetings from switzerland

I don't really know Cinema4D, so no tips here.

As for the scene in general i like it. Looks quite nice.
The maps you've used on the window HAVE to go, though. They ruin the scene because they are obviously very low quality.

I'd work more on the chairs, they don't look convincing. A room that bright will never have objects that are as black as that, since bounced light would brighten shadows. I don't know if they are supposed to look plasticy, but they don't look very comfortable. I might try for a different design, something more futuristic. Those you have are very 90's. :)

Do you plan to put more in the scene? It's a tad empty right now. Maybe a little table by the chairs with a magazine and perhaps a reading lamp.

Thank you for your comments it helps alot to hear someone elses opinion.

What exactly do you mean by the maps on the window? The sky and trees or the circles on the window.

I know the chairs are realy hard to get the way I want to but they are not supposed to look futuristic I want some big fat leather chairs, actually these are the chairs I have at home. I thought If Id take these its easy for me to put the real filmed people into them. But youre right they should be smoother and brighter.
I really like the contrast I get from the trees and the sky in this clean bright room.

Iwont put more stuff into the room, because its soupossed to look lost, empty, and clean. in the second pic there will be two people standing in front of the window talking. The whole film mustnt look real, it has to look a bit abstract (so will the people I put in) and its ok when you see its cg.

By maps i meant the environment you put on the windows. (Or outside).

As for the chairs, if they are leather, soften the shape up a but, they look to sharp. Textures will also help. If you have those chairs at home you should be able to shoot some good photos you can use.

The sky and trees look good, they are just way too low resolution. Also, if the camera moves in the scene it will be instantly spotted that they are flat maps. If you plan on moving the camera during the scene you will have to model the tree. The sky will be fine if you can get a highres map.
