View Full Version : Maya equivalents of Max?
I've been using Max for a while and starting up with Maya now. I'm used to the work flow of Max and am curious where the equivalent feature is in Maya (it might not exist, but i'm sure i just haven't found it):
1. Is there a quick way to cycle on/off "ignore backfacing" when in vertex mode?
2. When you apply smooth to the model it becomes permanent. What is your technique for making it so you can model and smooth and go back and forth? I've tried instancing the model, but both are still smoothed.
3. When i mirror the model over (instanced) and i'm working on one side, if i accidentally miss clicking a vertex, it selects the model below it. It's annoying, what's a good fix for that?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

only a tip for question 2.
in the channel box set the divisions back to zero and you will see the original back. after modifying set the division back to the desired ones.
there is this famous script "connectPolyShape.mel" at highend. try this one.
I only see the option to change rotation, scale, translation, where is division settings?
Can you elaborate on what that script does?

1. ToggleBackfaceGeometry; or Download Connect Poly Shape
2. Download Connect Poly Shape
3. Download Connect Poly Shape
How does downlaoding that program answer question 3?
I'm running it now, and it does help for the first 2.

When you smooth your model useing Connect Poly Shapes own Mirror funktion and not Dublicate CPS will then mirror a smoothed version and it can't be selected.
Thanks for the help. I am using that program now and i mirrored the face using it. After working on it a few hours i noticed that it's incredibly sluggish. I tried deleting the history, but then the 2 sides of the face are connected and no longer instanced.
How can i clear up the history (or whatever is lagging maya down) and still keep it so that i can work on it mirorred and alternate between smooth and face level?
Thanks

It should not delete the Smooth connection when you delete history.
Remember to use the
Delete by type > History
and not
Delete All By type > History

what i mentioned you will find in the channel box under the inputs. click on the inputs and there will be a point for the smooth. open it and there you'll find the divisions for the smoothoperation.
