View Full Version : The water dog!
That Adrian Guy 05-19-2002, 08:20 PM Actually.. I'm throwing out the water floor texture... I just wanted something that looked cool.
Anyhow... the main reason I made this was because I want something I could learn to bone easily, as well as have a fun time trying to work with. I'm shooting for a looney toon style of animation! Anyway... that's gonna take many moons

Any criticisms would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks!

looks great, but may I suggest some Ren and Stipy style animation, I love this character but I obviously see the ren characteristics. No seriously looks good I suggest for rigging that you get Naam's puppeteer, it is making my rigging and animation life far easier.

Thanks for the comment!
Man... I gotta find some plug-ins for C4D that don't cost an arm and leg.
I've seen naam's site, and ofcourse as luck will have it many of the example require those plugins. Are there any FREE animation plugins?
By the way, what does puppeteer do for animation? Either way, I have much to learn in the world of animation RIGGING before going all the way with it. Hopefully I find a less 'buggy' way of animating (I can't believe the strength of the master bone affects all of the children!) Last thing I want to do is use Character Studio! LoL, maybe I'm just whooped on C4D.
Regardless... I think I'll take your advice on the Ren and Stimpy style!!! It's rules!:buttrock:
By the way... Do any of you have any instant messenger programs? Maybe we can chat sometime???
Thanks again

you can always check someones profile for IM software they may have. I was using that new trillian program which is four in one, but it can't transfer files very well so I scrapped it and went back toi ICQ and MSN. (I only use MSN cause some of my friends refuse to change to something better) Anyways, 115634870 ICQ or kai@lucentdreams.zzn.com on MSN.
Feel free to bother me anytime i'm online. As for the stuff on naams site, all the stuff he has are using free stuff i believe. And chanlum and Peppeteer are two plugs of his which are free. I suggest you check out www.plugincafe.com and you'll see so many free plugins you don't know if you'll ever use them all. As designer and I said in the other thread, most of the real important plugins are free of $5/bannerware. Yes pyrocluster looks nice as does Shave and a haircut and dynamics, but their are workarounds for those things that work quite well. As for selecting a belt of polygons or something, great timesavers that make life easier and I use daily.
Puppeteer is basically a plugin for those who don't know how to code their own expressions and such. It allows you to do many things in your rigs that simply can't be done without scripting, but using this basically its like an interface that is easy to use and does the same as writing the script yourself. I don't know how I got by without it.
One more thing on the IM thing, because of school I am usually not on a computer till ten or so in the evening pacific time. I usually leave myself as N/A just so that you can leave me a messageand i'll respond as soon as I'm home.
OH, and love your avatar

RIGHT ON!!!!!
Good stuff, you would almost think that I would have figured this stuff out after having searched for so long! If I'm reading correctly I may have heard you mention a way of working around dynamics! I'll definitely keep my eye open for that.
Anyway, thanks for the info (and you avatar is one of the main inspirations I threw one together also!) :p
See ya around.

uhhh well maybe I was a little hat on that one specifically, Ther is a cheaper dynamix plugin that is way faster but still not as good, no actual softbodies and such, but what I meant, is that I tend to get around dynamics by animating things myself, though I haven't done a crazy girl in a cape or anything like that, I feeel that If I can animate the stuff classically, and understand timing and such, then do it in 3D, and I feel things look better when its all in control off the artist and less in control of the computer. Not saying I wouldn't use dynamics if I had it, but I don't plan on buying it anytime soon. A plugin that lets me group selcections finally and such are far more important to me.
Adrian thats cool.....nice work :buttrock:
Try black and white patches for a texture......not sure if it will work or not.Or even brown and lighter brown patches.
Maybe a small indent in his ears just to suggest an ear canal :)
On another subject do any of you guys know where there is a decent head modelling tute for C4D?,not the Bunk Timmer one on Maxons site though,he gets vaguer and vaguer as he goes on in that tute, and I swear he does things he forgets to mention as well.

If you want an okay head tutorial with a really different method for XL, I can send you my tutorial. Irts a few months old now and I'd like to update it but it comes with a handy photo reference and everything. Made in flas to sow you can flip pages step by step and lots of images less text. Sort of a patch style of modeling. Now its even easier with the stitch and sew plugins (free for limited version [only ten points] or something like 5 bucks for full version] which I can post a link for as well.

Like it. If you are trying for a loony toon style, I would suggest exaggerating some of the features. The tail is good. I presume you have not got to materials or look yet?
Well done.
Thanks Kai that would be really great
I can model most of the head I am just looking for alternate methods for modelling the nose as thats where I get stuck usually :)
Cheers

I think the KEY is modelling the eye, and then working out using the knife tool or add points tool. Box modelling is so... boxy = )
Thanks FX, and yes you are correct... textures are on the way! As you can see how everything looks procedural!
Kaiskai, if you could post a link to the tut, that'd be great!
He he he... and Stu, the kitchen idea is a good one = ) I'm actually going to have it talk smack to a friend of mine's "Napalm chick" A chicken that looks so innocent, but has abit of a technological advantage! I'll post a pic of it when I get the chance. so it's probably going to be more of a farm setting.
Now if I can just bone this dog right!!! Do any of you have puppeteer lying around!?? = )
Just a question:thumbsup:

You'll find three awesome free plugins here, A fake subsurface scattering plugin also good for velvet and such, Puppeteer, and a new time saver plugin Vmap tools. (just downloaded it haven't tried it) http://www.happyship.com/index2_FR.html
As for the tut, visit my oooooooooold crappy site and look in the tutorial section. there are two files you need, the tut and the C4D file. the server seems a little slow and as usual, realy bad so be patient the site did come up after a while and the I tested the two links and they worked fine. any more troubles email me and I can send them personally. http://www.lda.artshost.com/
Thanks Kai  .....worked fine.
