Take a look here (http://gw.marketingden.com/planets/earth.html), all you need to do is put each map in the corresponding channel. Colourmap goes in color channel, luminance in lumincance, transperancy in transperancy etc...
Apart from that I assume you know clouds are 'around' a planet and not the other way around.
Not much more to it than taking a sphere primitive and smacking some pre-fab materials on there...

Hi, you can find all the planets in C4D file in our site's resource. The texture's map came from Kirl's link. I hope you will love it.

hmm here is a way make few emitters and then make a complete replica of the worlds atmospere and then emit 900,000,000 particles and let it render for 5 years.
other wise stick to textures.

I made a few images of earth for a magazine tutorial recently using 3 spheres in increasing size, one for your earth surface map with BhodiNUT fresnel in the luminance channel, a cloud sphere for your clout transparancy map, a glow sphere with another BhodiNUT fresnel in the luiminance channel.
The image bellow is just a part of a sphere with a detailed map of North America using a very high resolution earth cloud map.
Cheers!
