Hey everyone,

i would like to achieve a rendering look like in the background of the attached picture.
water colour style with handpainted-looking outlines. I really don't have a clue where or how to begin. Is there by any chance a procedural way? - with something like the contour shader?

I am talking Maya, mental ray btw.

thx for any help

Edit: I thought about it ... maybe it would work with a script where I do use the modeled buildings just for extruding "3D outline geometry"? I'm not big of a scripting guy and doing it by hand isn't really an option because I have to do like 10-12 very detailed buildings

Hello,

I would use MR contour shaders and Photoshop filters, to save time and help your project move along faster. Contour shade all your edges in Maya, render out an alpha channel as well (so you can easily select the outlines of your buildings in Photoshop), and then you should be able to composite them relatively easily in Photoshop.

If you need more help or some workflow tips, just let us know!
