schumi 12-23-2009, 05:41 PM hi i am modeling an mp5 sub-machine gun and i would like some advice and tips on how to go about it. I am trying to do a detailed version but Im struggleing to create some of the parts on it.

+1. If you want specific answers, ask specific questions. Posting screenshots of your progress and naming the used software would be usefull too.

sorry I am new to these forums. The software I am using is 3ds max 10.
These are the 2 parts i need help with as my geometry looks messy.

How would a professional modeller go about making these two parts. What should the geometry look like?

Looks like one part to me... unless you've uploaded a 2nd pic and it's failed to load for me. That part looks like the handle at the front of the HK-MP5. I would model half and duplicate later. Just grab a cube and extrude to create the shape...

Quite easy.
I would loft the outer shape roughly(one half, like suggestes before), convert to Editable Poly, adjust the still flat shape, add a shell modifier to add volume, convert again and refine the dents on the top. When done chamfer the harder edges and apply a turbo- or meshsmooth.
