View Full Version : Mirroring Rig?
OutOfInspiration 12-22-2009, 11:20 AM Is it possible to mirror a rig withouth any problems?
For example a leg and one arm, I rigged those but know I want to mirror it to the other side.
But if i do that everything is messed up...
it their a good technique for this?
Or is it better to remake the rig for the arms and legs again?
(I use 3ds max 2010)
thanks

No there isn't other then scripting it your self. You can use the bone mirror tool to mirror the bones but you will have to rebuild the rest or you will end up with left handed matrix values on all the objects.

damn thats too bad, hate double work lol.
You have to use the mirror mode in bone tools?
If you just mirror it with scaling i guess you get a lot of problems?
because can you mirror it to world space so it's exactly symmetrical on the good location?
I don't see that in the options at the bone tools.
thanks
Well mirror in place then type in - in front of the world X position or remove the -

thanks again.
And when I want to mirror the shape helpers?
Can you use the scale -100% without any problems? when using it on the new bones?
Do not scale anything at the object level ever in any way.

Thank you so much PEN for the advice!
I almost finished my rig in one day.
Did IK / FK legs, IK / FK arms, Spine and part of the neck.
And didn't had any serious problems.
Will shoot some questions tommorow, going to sleep now.
i'm tired from all that perspective lol.
