View Full Version : Curvy Splines?
VashTheStampede 08-23-2003, 06:05 PM Uh, hey guys, I have another noobie question about am. Why is it that sometimes a spline will curve, rather than stay straight. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it thoroughly, so here's a picture.

copy and paste, drag and drop, or add a ? at the end of url in address bar.
Thanks for any help.

It looks as though you attached two end cp's together at each corner of the bottom of your shape. That would mean they became one cp causing your two splines to become one spline, thus a smooth curved spline and not a sharp corner where two splines meet.

Thanks Jim, here's a picture from a car I'm modeling, is there any way to work around my problem? I circled the splines that I'm having a problem with. Thanks again for any help. :)
*edit* whoops forgot picture

Both problem areas have two splines connecting as tangents (a bad thing), not as perpendicular splines.
The left problem area should become a 5 point patch with 2 of the points on the spline that creates the hole.
The right problem should be fixed by breaking (K) the 2 splines that join badly, then continue one spline to it's complete end and then connect the other spline to make it perpendicular.
If you haven't already, you should check out the tutorials here:

It's the new A:M tutorial directory, taking over from (Jim) Sherwood's Forest. Go through all the basic splinemanship tutes, they will explain better why you have these problem areas.
