Hi, I have just finished my first proper piece in Maya and would like some advice on lighting and creating a scene for it.

Iam using Maya 4.5 PLE and have just downloaded the GI_Joe script (only looked at it briefly) which I might be able to use to light the scenes. I would like to create 2 scenes, 1 photorealistic with an intresting setting and another scene that just shows of the detail on the model.
To keep it simple I will list my questions...
1. What is the best way to light a photorealistic scene and what would be an intresting setting to put the model into (maybe add some other objects?) I have tried a simple tabletop scene with area lights acting as a window which came out ok but there were dark patches in the button recesses on top of the gameboy which I couldn't seem to lighten effectively with fill lights. Any adive on how I should use light linking, should I light surfaces separately?
2. Next I'd like to do a simple scene which is light and shows off the details of the model. I've seen people place models on a simple montone floor with simple lighting that looks great but I can't seem to get it right, any advice?
3. I understand what GI is and that maya doesn't incorporate it by default but what is HDRI? I've seen guides how to do it but none explain it in plain english. Also are there any tutorials for using the GI_Joe script as I'm having trobule getting decent results.
Any comments on the model are very welcome. :D
Many thanks
Dom.
