View Full Version : Image texturing to one surface - BLENDER
ThrushDriver 12-20-2009, 04:48 PM Using Blender, how in the world do I get a jpg onto one surface only of a cube? I have been beating myself up trying to get this done and am about to scrap the whole idea. So I could use a hand here. I know it can be done.........just missing it somewhere. Any help would be appreciated. Merry Christmas!

Only played with Blender a bit, but blender.org has about a billion tutorials. I would be surprised if there wasnt a texturing tute!

three ways; the multiple material way, the UV way, and the projection way. UV unwrapping and texturing is covered exhaustively in the wiki (http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Manual/Textures/UV) that I wrote. Projection texturing is also covered in a wiki tutorial (http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Tutorials/Textures/UV/Camera_Mapping) that I wrote, and that is where you use some object (like an empty) to project the image onto the surface of the cube (to keep the image aligned to the face, parent the empty to the cube).
A quick and simple way is to use multiple materials (http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Manual/Materials/Multiple_Materials). Essentially, you assign one material to that face, and a different material to the other faces. Then, for that one material, load the jpg as an image texture, and you can simply map it to OrCo (Original Coordinates). Mark it shadeless if you want it self-illuminating, and there ya go.
