Just started learning how to draw in 3d using blender a few weeks ago. After following a few toutorials Ive come up with this.

I'm still working to clean things up some and at the same time figureing out how to actually use the program. Figured I'd post this here to see what you all think and if you have any tips for me as well.

Thanks.

You did this using blender? Cool!

Looking good so far!
You do have some smoothing issues going on here and there, it seems. Especially the trailing edge of the rudder.
The tyres don't have the right shapem, by the way, and there seem to be too many engine cowling flaps. The canopy frame might need looking at too.
Other than that, great work! And that with Blender! I'm impressed! :D

Is Blender really that hard to work with compared to some of the other stuff out there? Of course I'm not too crazy about the way the smoothing is done heh, thats leading to quite a few problems for me.

I merged some of the cowl flaps, though it is hard to tell from this shot. Also got the tires to look little better. The canopy is still giving me so much trouble I'm about ready to make it a "crashed" corsair instead heh. Though I think with a glass look on it, it might turn out ok though not sure on that. Also evened up the shading on the tail a little, though its not that visible from this shot.

Figure if i can ever figure out how to texture and paint this thing it might look good in a scene even with all the goof ups though not sure if itll come out good that way or not.

Any other advice for this? Though I'm about ready to scrap it all and start over from scratch heh. Might be easier that way.

It must be possible to assign smoothing groups in Blender. That would solve most of the problems!

Think I'm going to put this project on a back burner until I learn more about lighting, texturing etc. But here is what I have so far.

Never could figure out what smothing groups were or if even blender has them so the rudder and all the flaps are hollow to keep the smoothing good.

Smoothing groups define what faces of the model that are attched to eachother, appear to be smooth.
Imagine a geo-dome. Without smoothing it will look like a hemisphere made off triangles. With smoothing, it will look like a smooth hemisphere in 3D.
Now if you have a sharp edge, such as the edges of a simple box, you don't want to have smoothing on them. If you do apply smoothing to a box in 3D, the result will be very strange, with black streaks going over the model. This is exactly what happens on the wheeldoors, canopy frame and trailing edge of the rudder on your model.
Blender should have smoothing groups. I don't know Blender too well, so I'm afraid I can't point you to them, though. Have a search, as smoothing groups are extremely important in 3D modelling. Your Corsair will look a lot less "wrinkled" once the smoothing groups are fixed! :)
