View Full Version : Does 3ds max have built-in tools to assist in making fair (smooth) surfaces?

Basically, is there some sort of shading based on normals? Or what I really want is maybe a script or something that'll average out the vertices to form a smoother surface.

What would help me turn /\/\/\/\/\/\/\ into more of a /******\ ?

Did you try to meshsmooth modifier?

Um, a meshsmooth modifier isn't quite what I'm looking for.

Consider a mesh with a detailed section of wrinkles. A meshsmooth wouldn't fix that. Instead, it'd work with those wrinkles to produce a wrinkled surface. What I'm looking for is something that'll smooth those wrinkles out.

Model it smoothly and apply a meshsmoooth mod. Why would you model it wrinkled if you wanted it smooth?

did you try adding a relax modifier to it?

If u made ur model in Editable poly

there are a few buttons in the "Edit Geometry" tab called 'View Align', 'Make Planar' or 'Grid Align', u can then choose ur vertex (i think) or polygon face and click either those depending on what u are wanting to align it to and it should kind of realign ur faces to whatever u choose it to align to.

This would help smooth out ur bumpy mesh

Though not working perfectly, the relax modifier was the most useful of all suggestions. Thanks.

cheers
