(http://www.cgshelf.com/images/tutorial/particle/output.jpg)/\ Maya workspace, bunch of particles that have the color & location set so it looks like a photograph.
this is the effect i'm trying to get, that is from a Maya tutorial.

I call it "Particle Color from Image" from a Maya video tutorial I did. I am learning to use Flash to do the image compilation, so that it looks like the image is being assembled, or disintegrated, depending on how you order the images.
What is the term used for this effect in the Blender world ?
I would like to learn how to obtain the effect in Blender. Does anybody know a Blender tutorial that describes the technique for Blenderers ?
I searched on Google and within CGTalk, but got zero hits.
