RmachucaA 08-22-2003, 08:28 PM well, heres my second try at modelling a car, i chose the ford focus 2002 since theres so many, so i can compare myself, and hopefully i'll prove to myself i am not as bad a modeler as i believe.
please give me C&C
Polycount: 7000 with engine bay, and openable everything.
i still need to add suspension and an exhaust.

And with doors closed. Ill post another pic from the inside since its hard to see the interior.
I has taken me around 10-12 hours to get to this point.
i hope somehow it helps getting me hired :) :)

very nice!! good for a second try!
you might want to add some small detail to really add realism.
Keep going,
Will

A little update, im almost done texturing, i still have to do the inside textures, as for modelling i still need to add some little features, such as an antena and exhaust nozzle.

Good job in optimizing the mesh :)
I could hope that you would convert this into some game, or make a highpoly version of this!
...Just my thoughts! :D

Thnks for the comments, i model for the people
mwkmn: I belive in making a car that looks high poly, but in reality is low poly, that is wherein the challenge lies.
Plus im looking for a job as a modeler in any game company so i dont think they wanna see high poly models :-P
expect an update in a few hours...

Now that I think about it, I haven't been distinguishing 'modeler' from 'cg artist'.
And they ARE actually different, too. Hmm...

Looks quite good, I think you've hit the mark with the shape (bonnet is more accurate than mine). Please try to get some better hosting so we can see bigger and clearer renders/wires
Also why not post this in the game art section? There are quite a few good low poly car modelers there.

jacobt: Thank you, seeing your low-poly model kind of inspired me to do this :-)
After adding some more detais its just around 7500 polys, i could optimize but im going to start on another model soon.
Time from start to finish for this mode was:
modeling 12-14 hours aprox.
Texturing 6 hours aprox.
Thanks guys for the comments, ill be doing some new renders, bigger ones and hosting them on yahoo :-) soon enough ill have my own website...

Sweet looking car. But wondering what type of touring car is that? or is it a WRC? Also, i am kind of curious about the poly count for car modelling. Should it be high or low?

I was just thinking of game opening/ending movies. Y'know, those movies that has lotsa highpoly stuffs that you don't see ingame. ;)

well, mwkmn, thos days are over, now a days in game movies are being done using the game engine, since graphic quality, polycounts, textures. etc... have improved ten fold, theres no need for separate animations. The guys at blizzard obviously need to have little movies since their characters are like 10 polys :-)
but i guess you know what i mean. Anyways, about my model, reworked the suspension, added better brake discs, and right now i am working on the underbody panels that guard the engine, driveshafts and exhausts.
I also found out that Colin Mcrae Rally 3 cars are on average 13000 polys, right now mine is at 8000 and looking better if i may say so.
Texture-wise im using one main 1200x1200 texture which will be reduced afterwards, and 2 512x512 for the underbody and interior.
In a couple of hours ill post a a pic to show progress.
Thanks for the comments guys.
BTW, Its a 2002 Ford Focus WRC car

Heya RmachucaA,
I came to your thread after recieving your comments on my reel. It seems you know what you are talking about. The Focus looks really cool man. Good Job!
If you are having problems with geocities hosting. Try out www.tripod.com they have 25mb of space and you can do remote image linking without their stupid banner taking over.
You have to be tricky about it. I have a little code that makes it possible. But then that would make my account void and that would be wrong.
:shame:
