Now i've been running into the same problem for a while (since i'm a beginner).
When i try to chamfer an extrusion like this,

I often come across these triangles at the edges which muck up smoothing.

I've tried chamfering the other edges,

but when you increase the segments it goes into a star :/

any help would be greatly appreciated.
plus on a further note, does anyone have any good online guides to workflow/modeling principles etc. (stuff on the theory side and how to go about modeling complex objects)?
