View Full Version : I am quite new to this. I just got 3ds max5, what do you think? [caution to 56kers]

Hi, I followed the first car paint tutorial on http://www.danielbuck.net/3d.htm and I have been fooling around and this is what I have done so far. How is it?

I just got 3ds max5 because the rendering in rhino is nasty and pretty much useless to me. I like 3ds max5 a lot more and can't wait till I learn how to model in it. anyways here:

test just to see if the material was working

test with an omni light and two planes, one below and one above. remember in this one and the next one the bottom plane has the same material as the balls.

Looking good. Has a nice glossy waxed look. Get modeling! And get some real-world environments to reflect...

I am modeling a trumpet in Rhino, but testing my new rendering capabilities in 3DS Max. Hehe, I am trying to learn the rendering mostly because I can model pretty decently in Rhino. Well decently for me...anyways...

I am having some trouble getting the effect in the translucency tutorial in this forum. The one with the fresnel effect and how it looks really cool. Anyways this is what I have, which I must admit I like but is not what I am going for. I don't know what is wrong...
