looks great. i love the ink stain texture on the wood of the desk. the only thing i see is that the way the open edge of the file folder meets the briefcase, it looks like that single sheet of paper is holding open the heavy lid. also, i find the bright green frame on the bulletin board a bit out of place with the colours of the rest of the image. keep going. :)

I am very fond of your style. Not 100% photoreal but very well done in lighting, texturing and modeling. I'm still waiting for the photoreal obsession to end. I'm not too crazy about it. If I wanted photoreal, I'd go take a photo. ;) -- 3d_e

Lol :)
I was a professional photographer for years.Photorealism is a very tricky thing:studio-photorealism,outdoor-photorealism,available-light-photorealism....very difficult to decide what should be achieved.
But you`re right:this image is at the moment not 100% photorealistic.I`m still improving the lighting and material settings at the moment.Even at the moment when this wip was rendered,i found 100 points that should (and will) be improved :) When i`m
working on an new image i leave the final settings for the end.
Sometimes for me a picture has it`s own grace when it is photo-realistic for let`s say 98%.Is anybody expecting a painting to be like a photo ?Why should CG be ?

hi rollmops (what a funny name :) ),

I agree with 3d-e, the lighting is great. Is the scene
ready modeled ? Waiting for further pics.

keep it up, Bob

Hi bobtronic,
no the scene is not ready yet, some things are missing and some of the objects were not textured when i rendered this wip-image.
The chair infront of the desk will be replaced later, but i used this simple model to get an idea of the composition, the positioning of
objects and the work of light and shadow.
If you`re interessted, just follow the link below in order to see more of the work on this image:)

A little update. Sorry for the small image :)

I like the older lighting better. The foreground is to
bright I think. I found the old lighting a little more
natural. That is maybe a question of taste. The
overall look is very nice. Couldn't make it better
for lighting is my weakest point.

looking further for updates

cheers, Bob

You're right.I had to add some more lights, which will be turned down in the final. The foreground in this view has now to much light, but i will change that in a final balancing when everything else is ready. The very low AA-settings (to low now) do the rest to produce this impression (to much saturation now as well).:)

Nice work! You did a good job of capturing that 40s-50s look, and lots of good details. The only detail that stood out for me was the desk lamp--like why is it pointing at that odd angle? Is the detective using it for interrogations? :)

Dunno if it's your intention, but this scene really reminds me of some of those old Bogart detective movies. If that's what you're going for you might want to use higher contrast (high key) lighting to get that film noire look. Maybe even desaturate the image and add some film grain?

Nice update as you allready know.

The thing AdamT said is a good idea. maybe all colors together in the scene give a bit of a fluffy touch not enough contrast. One thing i said before. The ashtray is in the scene again and i don't really like it. :)

Yeah. That Bogart-feeling is indeed part of my intension.Concerning the lamb:somebody working in that office, taking a break ,trying to get space for his suitcase, pushing things away and reading the criminal stories on the desk.I tried to
find a reflection of the content the fictional stories in the "reality"
of this a bitt dull, standart office.
Concerning the colors :I reduced the saturation a bit too much in postwork (18%).The original has more contrast, but actually i will
leave that point for the final render, which will be more resoluted.
The idea of a film-grain is worth thinking of.
@ prayas :I knew you would mention that!But it`s a small one...
almost invisible...
