View Full Version : how to change reference file and keep the shaders from the original reference
Creieru 12-13-2009, 10:35 PM i have a problem, maybe one of you can help me.
i have an animated character with many shaders on it. in my scene it is referenced, but i have changed some shaders on him.
the question is... how can i make or replace the reference to get the character to have the original shaders from his original file. is there a method or do i have to copy the whole animation.
thanks

You don't say what software you're using so don't know if this will be any help but in maya you should just be able to reload the reference from the reference editor (it may be called something else now I've not used references for a couple of versions). in most reference editors you can reload/replace/rename blah blah all the sort of things you would expect to do with an external file. So you should just be able to reload or replace the reference in your current file?
If that doesn't work for whatever reason (ie: it still takes the shader changes from the animation file) just export the shaders from the reference file and import them into your animation file and replace the ones you messed up.

thanks cameo for your answer
the software is maya
if i replace the reference it`s still using the shaders form the animation file, and to export all the shaders it`s a lot of work
