View Full Version : HD file format?
lhermittem 08-22-2003, 03:34 AM Hi! I got a job where the footage has to be tracked and chromakeyed to comp the actors in a digital set. What format should I ask the client to provide me with, knowing that he must convert the HD native into...? targa? Quicktime uncompressed? sorrenson? what would give me the best quality for the best file size?
Thank you!

Depends on the software your using on your end. Pretty much anything that is lossless. Preferably some kind of sequential files since they load faster in most compositors. You can always convert them though if they give you a movie file.
Smallest file size that is lossless would be the following:
PNG, SGI, IFF
Quicktime movie with the PNG codec.
Also find out if what they capture on is giving you 8 or 10 bit color. That would suck if they compressed a nice 10 bit color file down to 8 bit. SGI and IFF both support 16 bit and PNG does, but only with "superPNG" that is out for download on the web.
