Hi everyone,

I've read an old thread on metallic paint, and how to simulate/model it.

I don't have any CG experience, i only use Engineering 3D modelling packages (Solidworks, Solid Edge, Pro-E, Inventor etc)

I'm trying to find out what my Leyland mini painted in a metallic version of British Racing green would look like.... can anyone here help?

What 3d app and renderer would you like to use?

I guess i'm not really concerned what package to do it in, in fact i'm not really concerned about seeing the colour applied to the subject. I really want to know what a metallic British Racing Green would look like. Just a sample of how it would look would be awesome if anyone has done it before.

The basic theory of metallic paint is to have 3 layers.

1. Diffuse base in green.
2. Blurry metallic (i.e. either no fresnel or a fresnel with ior 300-1000) highlight in green.
3. Clear coat layer - i.e. white specular layer with ior ~1.4-1.6.

Jobbed.
