View Full Version : Skin envelopes and animating
coffeepenguin 08-21-2003, 09:38 PM I'm in the middle of skinning a character and this question popped into my head:
If I have an envelope on a leg and it's larger than the leg, when I'm animating a walk cycle or any motion where an arm would swing by the leg, would the envelope on the leg affect the arm at all and vise versa? Or are the vertex weight I see when editing the envelopes going to remain the same?

No.

Yes.
The skin weights are dependent of the skinning pose, so when your character moves, the vertices are affected according to the envelopes setup at the skinning pose.

One more question. Just got finished skinning my characters and merged every thing together. The problem is on of the character's bones didn't merge but all the helpers, IK's, and splines did. When I move them the character moves the way it should acording to the rig. Is this going to cause any problems when animating since there arn't any bones?
