On my comp, this car is king. Definately my best model. This was created from scratch in 3 days(about 12 hours of work total). The model is built poly by poly, with the exception of the hood pins being made from cylinders.

7959 polys, 14585 with wheels, making it the highest poly car on my comp as well.

I know what you thinking, "thats a '71 rear bumper". I know. I like the 71 rear bumpers better. Plus, it bothered me that the 70 model had 4 round headlights and 2 square tailights, while the 71 had 2 square headlights and 4 round headlights. I decided to mix and match. I like it better this way

All pictures are not renders, they are straight unedited screenshots from the 3D modeller I use(www.zmodeler.com).

Please leave your thoughts on the car

I think the car is awesome, for a low poly car theres no much to crit really. These are the kind of models i expect to see in the next Grand Theft Auto!!! (If rockstar are listening)

Excellent, excellent work man! Especially due to the fact that you used zmodeller, sheesh - I remember playing around with that prog for a few hours, it was like pulling teeth. I suggest you try to make the move to a proper 3D app, your work would really shine then! I hear max is good for low-poly games stuff, and is probably a whole lot more intuitive to use than that ghastly zmodeller program.

Great stuff!

Looks neat.

Zmod..brrrrr, shivers. You seem to be quite handy with it though ;)

Very Nice! I had a 70 and I like the bumper change. Hope to see a full render soon.

It's too low. ;) To be a King Rat that is, but personally I prefer them lowered. I've owned both a -70 Chevelle SS396 and a -71 Chevelle SS454 Conv. and I totally agree with the change of bumper and the lowering of the ride height.

Considering it is low poly I can't find anything that is "off". Very well done! :applause:

Where did you find the blueprints for it? Or did you just model out of photo refs?

nice job, apart from the wheels which seem to have waaaaaaaaayy to many polys

nice silly yank car tho ;)

Thanks everyone. If you havent seen my other thread with other works of mine, you can see it here: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82453

In case any of you are wondering, the Chrome for the wheels/bumpers/and any trim is done by a reflection map I made for Zmodeler. The parts themselves are textured, but look much diferent without the reflections applied.

Simon: I decided to stop using lower poly blocky(Less than 500 polys per wheel) wheels Ive been using on my cars since I started modeling.. These wheels have 1600 polys each. These are fairly high poly if I wanted to use them ingame, but in the whole scheme of things, they are low poly for how they look.

Meshwolf: I don't think you understand though. Hehe. I've been modeling low poly cars for years, and considering the methods I have to use with zmod to create them, I don't think they are any easier to get perfect than cars with upwards of a million polys. Plus, technicly, this car is "high poly" where I come from :D

I used picture references for this, as all my cars. I don't believe in blueprints, it's cheating IMO. Wheres the challenge in 3d modeling when you have exact images to trace?

buzzbomb: You should see the program I started out modeling with if you think zmod is bad. Look up Carcad 1.5b for Need for Speed editing sometime. You cant zoom in/out, unite(er..weld) vertices, calculate normals, and texture mapping is nothing short of misery with it, on top of (many) other things I cannot remember.

Marty_McSly: I have a few other "pro" 3d programs(3ds max r2.5, Maya 4.5, And lightwave), but I just havent had the patience yet to learn them. The only thing I am interested in is making 3d cars, and these programs just have waaaay too many options, I can't find any of the options/tools I need when Im looking for them.

Though, I think I am at the top of my game with Zmodele, I dont think there is much room for improvement, and I am going to have to make a jump to another program soon. I think when Max 6.0 comes out, I will get that, and a book to learn it. Maybe then I can actually render some of my cars.

the wheels on some of the wires in that other thread looks great, so I'll let you off :)

Nice choice to model the Chevelle :-)

Dude, no matter what, your model is really neat! And by your standards there are plenty of cheaters around (blueprints *cough*) :buttrock:

May I just add the crits that there should be a moving part on the cowl induction hood? I take it that you already know that, but couldn't afford the polygons for it...

The Chevelle makes me all warm and squishy inside... Who will be the first one to model a 2004 Chevelle SS454 concept? ;)

these are badass!!

I especially like the niche you've got for youself. Master of the LOW POLY MUSCLE CAR!!

How about a charger? Or one of the those rod's with the engine coming out of the hood...
