View Full Version : Peg leg Walk cycle

Well im new to this character animation thing and for some odd reason i decided to animate a character with a peg leg (guess i like a challenge), but im having concerns with the outcome so I would really appreciate it if you could take a look at the clips i uploaded and critique the cycles.

Hey there, it's looking good but I think you need to sort his weight out. He's a big guy so he should be taking slow steps and then bringing his feet down quickly to show his weight. Maybe you could curve his arms around a bit more too so it really looks like he's struggling to walk and that it's a real effort for him to do.

I don't sense the effort of heaving his weight into the air and coming back down again. A peg leg is almost like a mini pole vault. He's got to coast up over that peg and fall back to earth again.
He doesn't look like he's shifting his weight. His hips are almost dead center all the time.
A long time ago I did a walk with a crutch, which is not quite the same , but has some of he same motion elements...

Thanks for the reply, and the video is much appreciated and im currently back to working on the weight shifting aspect of the walk, but ive uploaded a video of the progress of part of the animation, so please take a look and critique. By the way, the theme ive set for this is 'impossible is nothing' so dont get angry when you see the Run cycle lol.

As I look at the side view, I think he's not really pushing himself up and over that peg leg.
He's lifting his good foot too soon. He could extend that foot and push with his toe to get forward force longer.
The point where his peg touches the ground should be about his fasted forward moment... he's been falling forward and hasn't begun to slow on the way back up. But he seems to be halting at that point.

Thanks for the reply and once again ive tweaked the walk cycles, and i think its really is starting to look better.
